The Calico Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
Work at the leading edge of aging research
We are pursuing a deeper understanding of the biological mechanisms of aging so we can devise therapies to extend healthy lifespan. To get there, we have built a world-class research organization that is powered by cutting-edge technologies and a commitment to intellectual freedom and creativity.
Fully integrated into Calico’s labs and community, postdoctoral fellows pursue new research directions with devoted resources for innovative and ambitious research. Our postdocs have the opportunity to regularly engage with members of our scientific community, including senior leadership, through many career development opportunities.
"Calico’s unique industry and academic blend offers postdocs the unrivaled opportunity to explore new ideas without the typical constraints, providing the perfect environment for innovative research that can fuel the next generation of scientific discoveries."
Calico Stories
In 1993, aging science was barely a field of study. Many scientists believed that aging “just happened.” Since aging happens after reproduction, the thinking went, genes for…
About our Postdoctoral Fellowships
Pursuing a postdoc position at Calico is a unique opportunity for early career scientists to distinguish themselves in the field of aging research, deepen scientific training, develop research independence, and explore opportunities for the next phase of their careers.
Calico combines the focus and drive of a start-up with the resources and world class R&D capabilities of leading biotechnology companies and research institutions.
Additional program features:
-
01
A fixed-term, four-year educational assignment for individuals who have recently completed their Ph.D. degrees and have had a meaningful first author paper accepted for publication and have made important contributions to science in their area.
-
02
Postdocs will focus on their own project(s), mutually agreed to in principle and prior to making the decision to join the mentor’s lab. We will also expect that they contribute to our existing programs focused on furthering our understanding of aging and age-related diseases.
-
03
Our postdoc projects are intended to train scientists to become independent investigators in an academic or industry setting upon successful completion of the assignment.
-
04
Calico postdocs will receive regular feedback and guidance from their mentors and will also participate in a formal annual review process to review project progress and individual performance and provide career coaching.
Creativity and working together is central to our culture at Calico and we celebrate new ideas, perspectives, and people who are not afraid to do things differently. When we work together, we can expand the possibilities and our capabilities to perform cutting-edge science.
